Why a blog? What is this thing?

I started this blog as a way to document my decidedly contemporary journey into one of humankind's most ancient art forms. Ceramics. Back in January 2017,  partially inspired by post-election malaise and partially inspired by the amazing work a friend of mine had been making since she began taking classes the year prior, I signed up for a class on a whim using my mobile phone in the middle of the pottery studio while attending a winter sale.

The beginning wheel throwing class was sold out, but there was a surface design class that was available, so I signed up. I had taken ceramics back in college, but that was almost 20 years ago (!!!) so I had a lot of catching up to do. I was basically starting over.  Predictably, most of my pieces were weird misshapen bowls and forms that I was just happy managed to stand up and not either collapse on themselves or end up being torn to pieces by yours truly during the throwing and or building process (example below).
